Benedum Ceiling

We recently took in a show ("Damn Yankees") in downtown Pittsburgh, at the beautiful Benedum Center for the Performing Arts. This historic theater was built in 1927, and it's one of the city's jewels.

My favorite part of the theater, architecturally, is the ceiling.

This shot is almost disorienting. This ornate ceiling stands over a 2800-seat theater. The chandelier is 20 feet high, and weighs 4700 pounds.

The light from the chandelier is totally blown out in this shot, but that's ok, I think the image still works.

I spend a lot of time looking up when I'm at the Benedum.

Bracket shots to get some kind of detail in the light itself, then composite the shots in phtoshop.
